This was one of those rare seasons when the designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren of Viktor & Rolf went for straightforward fashion, instead of the conceptual variety. While it was not the usual three-ring circus, this collection, loosely themed around Hollywood glamour, offered a good opportunity to reiterate the signatures of the house. It was also a reminder that Mr. Horsting and Mr. Snoeren, besides being great showmen, are in the business of selling clothes(calvin klein underwear).

The show(tommy boxer) opened with long black and white gowns with overlays of knife-pleated metallic fabrics that, if not inspired by old Hollywood, were certainly appealing for today’s red-carpet crowd. Even in a relatively simple collection(ck,tommy,D&G), the designers managed to work in a few tricks, including large mirrored embroidery in the shape of roses on a ballgown, and a black utility vest that looked padded because it was made of shaved tulle. And as usual, there was a creative take on the trench coat. (This one was also made of shaved tulle, so you wouldn’t want to get it wet.)
